\"Milisav<\/a><\/p>\n

Milisav Savi\u0107 is a Serbian prose writer, literary historian and translator, with a PhD.<\/p>\n

He was born on 15th <\/sup>April 1945 in Vlasovo near Ra\u0161ka. He completed his high school education in Novi Pazar, andgraduated in Yugoslav and World Literature from the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. He earned his Master\u2019s Degree from the same university defending the thesis\u201cMemoirs of the First Serbian Uprising\u201d, followed by a doctorate on \u201cMemoire-Diary Prose on the 1876-1878 Serbian-Turkish Wars\u201d.<\/p>\n

He has been an editor of the Student<\/i>, Mladost<\/i>, Knji\u017eevnare\u010d, <\/i>and Knj\u017eevne novine<\/i> magazines; the editor-in-chief and general manager of the publishing company \u201cProsveta\u201d; the president of the Serbian Literary Cooperative (2000 to 2001); served as Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro, and later Serbia, in Rome (2005-2008); a teacher of Serbo-Croatian and Yugoslav Literature at London University, State University of New York in Albany, the University of Florence and the University of Lodz. Since 2010 he has been a full professor at the State University of Novi Pazar.<\/p>\n

His novels have been translated into Greek, English, Slovenian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, and Romanian.<\/p>\n

The author of a lexicon Who\u2019s Who – Writers from Yugoslavia<\/i> (1994), Savic has published several books of translations from English and Italian. He has edited the anthologies of contemporary American short story Psihopolis<\/i> (1988), contemporary Australian short story Commune Does Not Want You<\/i> (Komuna te ne \u017eeli, 1990), Contemporary Italian Short Stories<\/i> (Savremena italijanska pripovetka, 1992), and The Modern World Mini Story<\/i> (Moderna svetska mini pri\u010da, with Sne\u017eana Brajovi\u0107, 1993). He has compiled the anthology The Best Serbian Short Story (Najlep\u0161e srpske pri\u010de, selection, preface, comments, 1996).<\/p>\n

Sne\u017eana Adamovi\u0107 published a book about Milisav Savi\u0107 entitled Poetics of Milisav Savi\u0107 <\/i>(Poetika Milisava Savi\u0107a).<\/p>\n

In the form of a narrative and essayistic melange, a constant illusion of an autobiographic prose about himself and others, \u201cbetween the legend and the sludge of historical reality,\u201d the reader can see a parade of writers Borges, Andri\u0107, Crnjanski, Ki\u0161, Pavi\u0107, Dragoslav Mihajlovi\u0107, Josi\u0107, Vi\u0161nji\u0107…, various yogis and commissaries, \u201cbandits\u201d and \u201cprofessors\u201d; antinomies are sought which bind both life and literature; the answers are offered to the questions who is and whoisn\u2019t a writer, what is and what isn\u2019t literature, how people lie in biographies and memories, and where personal life intersects with the general and personal literary reality sealing one\u2019s destiny. Writing about the terror of political reality and about the artistic one, which outgrows the former and essentially opposes it, about the things which are relevant to a personal literary workshop and poetic storage, and without an obvious plot, Savi\u0107 in this Footnote <\/i>of his manages to achieve important and deepened insights into things relevant to us, and to drags his readers into and keep us in this privileged space of literary game by means of a constant aspect of narrative uncertainty as a kind of \u201cglue\u201d.<\/p>\n

This is one of the best domestic novels in the previous year, a winner of the prestigious \u201cMiroslavljevo jevan\u0111elje\u201d Award. The novel sets off with the events of 1995 when the region is ravaged with the war, but it has certain elements of erotic fiction and thriller on the one hand, and intimate scenes and the heavy burden of transiency on the other. The recognisable creative handwriting of MilisavSavi\u0107 is a guarantee that this is yet another book which will offer us the joy of reading and artistic experience of the reality of our lives.<\/p>\n

The use of various citation and documentary material, the breaking of linear narration and making spatial and temporal dimensions more complex, problematisation of historical knowledge, elements of a theatralisation of the world or, for example, communication between characters in dreams as a form alternative but more authentic reality, are some of the techniques the new Savi\u0107\u2019s novel rests upon, reaffirming and developing further the author\u2019s already profiled narrative strategy. Without abandoning the previously formulated art of fiction as a search for the true being and form of the story, while \u201call stories without a plot are uninteresting,\u201d\u00a0 Savi\u0107\u2019s new novel develops a doubly complex story which is, in regard to composition, consistently segmented into odd (Zanovi\u0107\u2019s) and even (Dositej\u2019s) chapters.<\/p>\n

Written in the form of a prose and essayistic melange, driven by the idea that \u201cthis world still needs stories\u201d and the need of a writer to get completely denuded, almost two decades after Footnote, <\/i>this book follows the writer, his poetics and reading, with a self-evident sideways view, from the unexpected angle.<\/p>\n

Basara…), as well as the often shaded places from the history of Serbian literature (such as the ones referring to Dositej, MilovanVidakovi\u0107, Grigorije Bo\u017eovi\u0107, even Crnjanski), we reveal a mosaic which affirms an important layer of value in our national culture.<\/p>\n

This poetical Baedeker, offering a reliable testimony of some of the facts of our literary topography and history, simultaneously profoundly and simply informs us about the constancy of duality, living and writing, which bind the author, about the problems of biography and biographic literature, about the point in reality where literature is born, and finally, about the history of literary technique as the birthplace of literature.<\/p>\n
