While studying law, he published <em>Crack Manifesto<\/em> (1990), a critique of Mexican literature, thereby promoting his own work as well as that of several other young authors who participated in the project. Volpi\u2019s novels depart from magical realism and other trends in Hispanic American literature, focusing instead on character development and the exploration of academic subjects, particularly history and science, while their settings are often outside South America. Volpi has received numerous awards, including the <em>Biblioteca Breve<\/em> Award and the <em>Planeta-Casa de Am\u00e9rica<\/em> Prize. He has published more than twenty books, and his works have been translated into more than twenty-five languages.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to writing, Jorge Volpi has served as a cultural attach\u00e9 and as director of the Mexican television station <em>Canal 22<\/em>. He currently serves as director of the <em>Festival Internacional Cervantino<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>His best-known works include: <em>A pesar del oscuro silencio<\/em> (1993), <em>La paz de los sepulcros<\/em> (1995), <em>En busca de Klingsor<\/em> (1999; <em>In Search of Klingsor<\/em>, Tennessee, Belgrade, 2021), <em>El juego del Apocalipsis<\/em> (2000), <em>D\u00edas de ira<\/em> (2011), <em>La tejedora de sombras<\/em> (2012; <em>The Shadow Weaver<\/em>, Laguna, Belgrade, 2018), <em>Una novela criminal<\/em> (2018)\u2026<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jorge Volpi, a Mexican writer, was born in 1968.
