He grew up in Subotica, where he was active in the local comics and literary scene. He studied English language and literature at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, where he has lived since 1991.<\/p>\n<p>His first novel was published under a pseudonym by the Novi Sad newspaper <em>Dnevnik<\/em>, two years after his manuscript was accepted when he was sixteen. Although he had published two stories in the magazine of the Subotica Science Fiction Society \u201cMeteor\u201d in the second half of the 1980s, his first story, \u201cThe Dying Butterfly,\u201d appeared in an official publication in April 1993. Since the early 1990s, he has published around fifty short stories in magazines ranging from <em>Politikin Zabavnik<\/em> to the Ni\u0161-based <em>Gradina<\/em>, as well as in anthologies ranging from <em>Tamni vilajet<\/em> to <em>Istinite la\u017ei<\/em>, some of which were collected in the collection <em>Stories of Mystery and Magic<\/em> (2017).<\/p>\n<p>He has written for <em>Vreme<\/em>, <em>Pressing<\/em>, <em>Neon<\/em>, and <em>Hooper<\/em>. Together with illustrator Ivan Pejki\u0107, he worked on one season of the original series \u201cMonster Agency\u201d for the children\u2019s magazine <em>Tik-Tak<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He has translated Lucius Shepard\u2019s <em>The Golden Blood<\/em>, David Shaw\u2019s <em>Rain Like a Bullet<\/em>, Matthew Collin\u2019s <em>This Is Serbia Calling<\/em>, George Pelecanos\u2019s <em>King Suckerman<\/em>, as well as Jonathan Lethem\u2019s <em>Motherless Brooklyn<\/em>, <em>You Don\u2019t Love Me Yet<\/em>, and <em>The Fortress of Solitude<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He has published the novels <em>Crne cipele<\/em> (<em>Black Shoes<\/em>, 2005), <em>Ki\u010dma no\u0107i<\/em> (<em>The Spine of the Night<\/em>, 2010), <em>Iver<\/em> (<em>Splinter<\/em>, 2015), and <em>Polje meduza<\/em> (<em>The Field of Jellyfish<\/em>, 2023). In 2019, he published the children\u2019s detective novel <em>Kako sam postao detektiv<\/em> (<em>How I Became a Detective<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>He is the recipient of the \u201cLazar Komar\u010di\u0107\u201d Award (2004), the \u201cLjubomir Damjanovi\u0107\u201d Award (2004), and the \u201cStanis\u0142aw Lem\u201d Award for speculative fiction in literature (2022).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oltv\u00e1nyi Ott\u00f3 was born in 1971 in Novi Sad.
