DEJAN ALEKSIĆ

Dejan Aleksić (1972) is a poet, prose and playwright, and a writer for children. He graduated from the Department of Serbian Literature and Language at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. He entered the literary scene in the mid-1990s, with his first published work appearing when he was 22. In 1995, he won the Young Poets’ Festival in Vrbas. He is considered one of the most significant literary figures of his generation.

His poems have been included in numerous collections and anthologies, and his work has been translated into English, German, Norwegian, Bulgarian, Greek, Macedonian, Hungarian, Slovak, Slovenian, and Rusyn. He has received numerous awards, including the Matica Srpska Zmaj Award, the Meša Selimović Award, the Branko Miljković Award, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts Award from the Branko Ćopić Fund, the Borislav Pekić Fund Award, the Prosveta Award, the Branko Award, the Matić’s Scarf, the Risto Ratković Award, the Miroslav Antić Award, the Vasko Popa Award, and others.

He has gained particular recognition as a writer for children and is considered a successor to Duško Radović, Dragan Lukić, Dragan Đorđević, and Ljubivoje Ršumović. He lives and works in Kraljevo.
