ANA VUČKOVIĆ

Ana Vučković was born on 16 November 1984 in Belgrade. She studied dramaturgy at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and subsequently completed a master’s degree in film studies at the same faculty.

Her writing career began at an early age. At the age of fifteen, in 1999, she received the “Borislav Pekić” Award for the best short story for her story The Swing. Ana Vučković’s books are rich in references to popular culture, which only a knowledgeable connoisseur such as herself can fully grasp. Her books are also characterised by numerous stories from childhood and adolescence, in which we can all recognise some part of ourselves.

In addition to writing books, Ana is a journalist at Radio Belgrade. She most frequently reports on film, theatre, and cultural events. She is also a columnist for the online and print editions of City Magazine. She edits and hosts several programmes on Radio Aparat, an alternative internet radio station founded in late 2016.

In addition to the Pekić Award for young literary talent, her debut novel The Epoch of Yesterday’s Demise (Epoha lipsa juče) was shortlisted for the NIN Award in 2003. Her short story collection Plush Apartment Building (Plišani soliter) was shortlisted for the “Isidora Sekulić” Award in 2007.

She has published the following novels: The Epoch of Yesterday’s Demise (2003), Lust ‘n’ Dust (2004), Plush Apartment Building (2007), Surfing Serbia (2012), and Yugoslav (2019).
