MAGDALENA BLAŽEVIĆ

Magdalena Blažević was born in 1982 in Žepče, where she grew up. She graduated in Croatian and English Language and Literature. Her short stories have been published in literary magazines and on literary websites, including Balkanski književni glasnik, Riječi, Život, Ajfelov most, Strane, and Astronaut, among others. Some of her stories have been translated into English, Russian, and Macedonian. She has received several awards for best short story. She lives and works in Mostar.

She published her short story collection Svetkovina in 2020. Her stories have been translated into several languages, and the title story was shortlisted for the American “Adelaide” Literary Award. Stories from the collection have won several awards for best short story, including the “Ranko Marinković,” “Zija Dizdarević,” and “Bugojanska vaza” awards. U kasno ljeto (2022) is her first novel, a powerful and poetic anti-war work told from the perspective of Ivana Širić, a girl killed in Bosnia in 1993.
