BARBARA KLICKA

Barbara Klicka was born in 1981 in Płock. She studied Polish philology at the University of Warsaw. In addition to being a poet, editor, screenwriter, and literary critic, she writes lyrics for musical groups and is actively involved in cultural animation. She is a co-author of lyrics and a member of the band Pochwalone. She is also one of the few experts on Yiddish in Poland and an editor of the Jewish quarterly magazine on literature and art Cwiszn.

She made her debut as a poet in 2000 with the collection Wrażliwiec, and in 2012 she published the collection Same Same, which was nominated for the Wrocław Silesius Poetry Award for Book of the Year. She won the award in 2015 for the collection Nice, for which she also received the Gdynia Literary Award in 2016. In 2021, she published the poetry collection Allel. Her latest work, the novel Reneta, was nominated for the Nike Literary Award.

Her poetry has been translated into numerous European languages, while her prose debut, the novel Zdrój (Spa, 2020), was nominated for several awards and has so far been translated into several languages.

Together with Jacek Dehnel and a team, she launched the New Secret Detective project, which resulted in the publication of a book (2015) and an album, as well as the creation of a multimedia exhibition and a blog dedicated to criminals and crimes in interwar Poland.
