Ayfer Tunç

Ayfer Tunç is a contemporary Turkish writer born in Adapazarı, Turkey in 1964. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Istanbul, and started releasing articles in magazines dedicated to art and culture as a student. She worked as an editor at a publishing house Yapı Kredi Publishing from 1999 to 2004. Her non-fiction book titled My Parents Will Visit You If You Don’t Mind: Our Life in the ’70s (2001) gained widespread attention from the public winning the Balkanika Literary Award in 2003, and was translated into six Balkan languages. A script titled Cloud in the Sky, which she wrote in 2003 inspired by Sait Faik’s short stories, was adapted into a movie and aired on Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). She is the author of two books of short stories Friends From The Cave (1996), Evvelhotel (2006), compiled texts about the lives of real people This They Call Life (2007), an e-book Time Divided into Letters, a study published in 1994 with Oya Ayman titled Two-Faced Sexuality, as well as the novels Cover Girl (1992), The Highly Unreliable Account of the History of a Madhouse (2009), The Night of the Green Fairy (2010), Suzan’s Notebook (2011), The Pain of the World (2014), Lovers Are Crazy or Coin Flips (2018) and Osman (2020).
