Ninoslav Mitrovic

Ninoslav Mitrović (Doboj, 1976) is a Serbian writer from Republika Srpska and an ethnologist and computer scientist by profession. He lives and works in Banja Luka. He is considered a pioneer of contemporary horror fiction in Republika Srpska, and his work, inspired by Slavic mythology and folk traditions, holds an important place in the development of the genre.

He is the author of the short story collection Gluvo doba (2012, 2022), the horror novel Crni pupoljak (2019), and the novel Vrapci u oluji (2021). His prose draws extensively on folkloric heritage, mythical and demonic beings, and supernatural elements, placing them within a recognizable local cultural and historical context. Gluvo doba comprises nine stories about demonic beings from Serbian folk tradition, thematically divided into three cycles focusing on female, male, and child demons. Crni pupoljak creates an atmosphere of psychological and supernatural horror through four interconnected stories, while Vrapci u oluji is set in eastern Serbia in the 1920s and follows the fate of a returning war veteran whose choices set in motion a story of guilt, remorse, and revenge.

His stories have appeared in genre and thematic journals, including Omaja, Naslijeđe, and Srp, as well as in numerous thematic collections and anthologies, including the collection Nevidbog, which features his story “Hromi.” In 2023, the collection Gluvo doba was also adapted into a graphic novel of the same title, with all nine stories transformed into graphic-novel form.
