OLEKSANDR BOYCHENKO

Oleksandr Boychenko (Oleksandr Boichenko; 1970, Chernivtsi, Ukraine) is a literary critic, journalist, essayist, and translator. From 1995 to 2008, he taught at the University of Chernivtsi, and from 2002 to 2010, together with Yuri Andrukhovych, he edited the online magazine Potyah 76. He was a three-time recipient of the Polish Ministry of Culture’s Gaude Polonia scholarship, won the Ukrainian “Book of the Year” competition in 2003 in the essay category, and received the Yuri Shevelov Prize for Modern Ukrainian Essay in 2015.

He is the author of books in various genres: Something Like Chatokua (Shchos na kshtalt Shatokua, 2003), Chatokua Plus (Shatokua Plyus, 2004), Let There Be a Book (Abi Knyzhka, 2011), Mine Among Strangers (Moi sered chuzhykh, 2012), More/Less (Bilshe/Menshe, 2015), 50 Percent Right (50 vidsotkiv ratsii, 2016), and The Land Beyond the Zbruch (Kraina za Zbruchem, 2018). He is also a co-author, together with Yuri Andrukhovych and Orest Dryul, of the book-length conversation Vorokhtarium (Vorokhtarium, 2018).

He has translated works from Polish by Marek Hłasko, Tadeusz Borowski, Daniel Odija, Michał Walczak, Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk, Paweł Demirski, and Michał Zadara, as well as novels by Viktor Yerofeyev and Igor Pomerantsev from Russian.
